What is it?
BOTOX® Cosmetic contains tiny amounts of a highly purified botulinum toxin protein refined from the bacterium, Clostridium botulinum. Formulations, potency, and approved doses vary among botulinum toxin products, which means that one product cannot take the place of another. Those are a few reasons why there is no such thing as a “generic” form of BOTOX® Cosmetic. There have been no studies to support that other products are Unit-to-Unit equivalent to BOTOX® Cosmetic.
How It works
BOTOX® Cosmetic targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines and crow’s feet—the repeated muscle contractions from frowning and squinting over the years. Your specialist will inject these muscles with BOTOX® Cosmetic to temporarily reduce muscle activity. You will begin to notice a visible smoothing of your crow’s feet lines and frown lines between your brows.
Wrinkles result from a combination of many factors. It’s not just about cellular changes that can occur over time, reduction of collagen, or damage caused by free radicals in the sun and the environment. When you frown or concentrate, the muscles between your brows contract, causing your skin to furrow and fold. And when you squint, the muscles around your eyes contract and cause crow’s feet.
BOTOX® Cosmetic works beneath the skin’s surface and targets the underlying muscle activity that causes frown lines and crow’s feet.
Important Information: Botox ® / Dysport ®
- PROCEDURE: Inject a highly diluted protein toxin with a fine needle into facial expression
muscles. Temporary muscle paralysis softens skin lines and furrows caused by specific muscle
action. - LENGTH: 15 minutes; Office Procedure with topical or icing.
- SIDE EFFECTS: Temporary stinging, possible bruising.
- RISK: Poor or asymmetrical effect. Migration of toxin to other muscles causing unwanted
and/or asymmetrical result. Drooping of eyelid or double vision that may last for several weeks.
Temporary nature of the effect with potential need for repeat and maintenance treatment. - RECOVERY: No exercise for 24 hours. Do not rub treated area(s) for 48 hours. Remain upright
for 4 hours. *Full results will not appear until 5- 7 days after treatment. * - DURATION of RESULTS: 3 to 4 months before repeat treatment needed.
- BEFORE TREATMENT: Avoid aspirin or ibuprofen at least 48 hours prior to the treatment. No
makeup in areas to be treated before arriving for treatment.

Dysport
Dysport treats moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows by reducing specific muscle activity. Wrinkles are caused by repeated movements and muscle contractions, which means they can even develop in younger adults. One injection into each of 5 points between and above the eyebrows temporarily prevents muscle contractions that cause frown lines, leaving the rest of your face to move naturally. Restylane®, Juvederm®, RHA
Hyaluronic acid fillers are unique in their ability to soften fine to moderate facial wrinkles and restore volume. These newer fillers give immediate improvement with very little downtime and natural results.
Overtime your skin loses elasticity and structure. Elastin and collagen is depleted and weakened. This natural process, plus genetics and environmental factors like sun exposure can cause moderate, sometimes severe, lines and folds.
Age-related volume loss can cause cheeks to flatten and deepen nasolabial and marionette folds. Restoring facial volume can give the perception of the lifting of depressions and folds giving the face a much more youthful contour by softening the abrupt transitions caused by aging.
Subtle or more profound volume can be added to the lips, including defining the vermillion ridge, the cupid’s bow, and the philtral columns to the nose. Elevating the downturned corners of the mouth can be very beneficial as well.
Important Information: RHA, Juvederm®, and Restylane® (Hyaluronic Acid)
- USES: Fillers and volumizers are designed to restore facial contour and reduce the appearance
of lines and wrinkles due to aging. Typically, Hyaluronic acid fillers are used to add definition to
the nasolabial folds, the lips and fine lines around the mouth. Voluma® and Radiesse® are used
as a deeper facial volumizer to enhance the cheeks (moldable cheek implant) or correct early
jowling and restore a natural jaw line. - PROCEDURE: Office based injections of hyaluronic acid or hydroxyappetite with a small needle
into fine lines around the mouth, the forehead, or to add volume to the cheeks, forehead, lips,
nasolabial and marionette depressions. - LENGTH: approx. 30 minutes Office Procedure with topical anesthesia/dental blocks
- SIDE EFFECTS: Temporary stinging, fullness, faint redness, bruising requiring cover-up
- RECOVERY: Immediate. Chance for mild bruising for 3-5 days. Mild swelling for 3-4 weeks as
filler smooths into tissues. No makeup for 24 hours after treatment. Mild soap and water, facial
wash only. - DURATION of RESULTS: 6-18 months
- OFFICE VISITS: 1st and 2nd (if needed) treatment 4 to 6 weeks apart

PRP
Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) can also frequently be added to hyaluronic acid fillers to improve the longevity of the filler and to improve tissue health and skin texture.
Recovery
The recovery time for injectable facial fillers is minimal. In most cases, the procedure will be done quickly in the doctor’s office, and you can go about your normal routine as soon as you leave. If you do notice any swelling, pain, or other medical conditions, contact your doctor right away.
