Many people go through life being unhappy because of their ears, but they don’t have to continue like this. How Otoplasty Works
The otoplasty procedure takes about two to three hours depending on the surgical candidate. The individual is not awake during the surgery, which uses general anesthesia. Compared to other plastic surgeries, ear reshaping is quite simple. Surgeons reshape and resize ears using small incisions that are made behind the ear and within the ear. After the surgery, there will not be any visible scarring from the incisions. It is an outpatient procedure, so surgery candidates do not have to spend the night in hospital.
Recovery Time
The recovery for otoplasty takes a total of six weeks, though individuals can get back to regular activity after about one week. Doctors will place what are called fluff bandages around the individual’s head after the surgery. A few days later, the bandages will be removed and lighter bandages will be placed that will need to stay there for a few more days.
The first week is spent on recovery and the individual must get plenty of rest. They will have to avoid strenuous activity that could damage the newly-shaped ears and cannot wash their hair. At the end of the week, all bandages will be removed. Patients will be given a headband that goes over the ears to help preserve this shape.
Cost of the Procedure
Prices vary from person to person, but typically range between $3200 to $5300, which includes the cost of the surgeon, renting out a room for the operation, and the anesthesia. To learn more about the procedure and find out if you are a candidate, make an appointment at Boulder Plastic Surgery.
