It’s human nature to be hesitant trying new things. It’s in our basic coding to question safety and weigh the benefits and drawbacks of any major decisions we may come across in life. There’s nothing wrong with that; making sure you’re well-informed is the best way to go into any decision. An important decision in life, for some, is whether or not to undergo any variety of plastic or reconstructive surgery. We at Boulder Plastic Surgery understand that there may be some hesitation — one of the major questions we get asked by prospective clients is, “Is this safe?” We’re here to put that question to rest. The short answer: yes it is. The long answer? Keep reading.
Safer Than a Typical Day
Leading experts agree that the mortality rate during major reconstructive and plastic surgery operations is so low that they’re perfectly safe. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons puts the score at one fatality in every 57,000 procedures, while the leading medical journal Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery errs a little more pessimistic with one death in every 51,459 operations. Let’s put that into perspective: according to the National Center for Health Statistics, you have a 1 in 7692 chance of dying during a live birth, something that happens completely naturally in every woman’s life. Not a woman? Don’t feel left out: your chances of being injured during a motor vehicle collision are about 1 in 1,000. You have a greater chance getting hurt on your way to the clinic than taking the procedure.
Caution is Still Important
It’s still good to make sure you’re well-informed, and don’t confuse “low-risk” with “no-risk”. If you want to make sure that plastic surgery, botox, or any of the facial rejuvenation operations that we offer are totally safe and applicable for you, by all means, continue doing research. One of the easiest and most reliable ways would be to stop by our offices located conveniently in Boulder and talk with some of our leading doctors on staff. We’re more than happy to help and make sure you get the treatment that’s safest and best for you. We want to see you beautiful, and most of all we want to make sure you’re comfortable doing it.
