Buyer Beware: The Lifestyle Lift

You have probably seen the commercials advertising the Lifestyle Lift, a procedure marketed as a new approach to the traditional facelift. Although the ads depict what seems to be a quick and painless procedure, some patients have reported to the contrary. The company was recently required to change their marketing practices, no longer calling the Lifestyle Lift a “revolutionary procedure,” and some customers even received a refund.

The company came to an agreement with the Florida Attorney General to follow the guidelines set by the Federal Trade Commission regarding testimonials, and began altering other marketing practices. This is not the first time that Lifestyle Lift has come under fire for their marketing campaign. A few years ago, the New York Attorney General found that company employees were posing as satisfied customers in advertising materials.

According to Lifestyle Lift spokeswoman Rebecca Shaw, the company has eliminated the phrase “revolutionary procedure” from its campaign. In fact, the Lifestyle Lift is a different approach to an already established procedure. Shaw said that what sets the Lifestyle Lift apart is that it is performed under a local anesthesia.

About the Procedure

Before undergoing the Lifestyle Lift, oral sedatives and injections of lidocaine are administered. Unless intravenous sedation is used to put patients into a partial sleep state, facilities do not typically have to be accredited. According to founder David Kent, though, each facility already has the emergency equipment that would be required for accreditation.

The Basics of a Facelift

General anesthesia is used with a traditional facelift, which has proven to be safe and effective over many years of practice at accredited facilities like Boulder Plastic Surgery. A facelift removes excess fat and tightens muscles to improve the appearance of jowls, sagging facial skin, and loose skin on the neck. Results last between five to ten years.
