We also want you to be pleased with your results, so here are some great tips that can help you during the vital recovery process.

Handy Tips for a Healthy Recovery

Our staff here at Boulder Plastic Surgery wants you to know that one of the most important aspects of healthy recovery is taking good care of your incision sites. It is important to keep extra-oral incisions dry; do not let any lotions, moisturizers, or creams near your incision, as these can lead to inflammation and swelling. For incisions inside the mouth, it can be helpful to use a product like Listerine several times a day. You will also likely be restricted to a liquid diet until the incisions heal in order to help keep them clean. It is important not to tongue your incisions or touch them with your fingers; this can introduce germs and bacteria that can lead to infections.

It is a good idea to monitor your temperature daily. A spike in your body’s temperature could be a sign of infection, and early detection will be crucial to minimizing the effects of the infection. If you do develop an infection, it is vital to take antibiotics on time as directed. You can expect to see some swelling and bruising after your procedure. During the first 48 hours after surgery, cold compresses can help to alleviate much of the swelling and bruising that you may experience. After the 48-hour mark, warm compresses can be used to help dilate the blood vessels and help to remove any bruising that may still be present. Sleeping with your back and head elevated will also help to reduce swelling and bruising, as this helps keep pressure away from your head. Getting enough sleep is also important for your body to be able to properly heal itself.
