We will make a small incision behind your ear where the cartilage may be cut out or folded and stitched, depending on the structure of your ear and your desired outcome. A local anesthesia will given before the incision is made.
Most otoplasties are performed in the office, and you are able to go home the same day. You will have a bandage applied to your head that will need to be worn for at least three days, or until otherwise instructed by your surgeon. We will give you detailed post-surgery guidelines and a home recovery regimen that needs to be followed diligently for a proper and thorough recovery. After a few days, you will return to our office to have the bandage removed and will have another type of dressing applied to your head that will need to be kept on for up to three weeks. We will discuss in depth all possible risks, aspects of the procedure, and what to expect during recovery before your surgery is performed.
