The FDA Approves Botox Cosmetic For Treatment of Crow’s Feet Lines

botoxFor patients seeking a way to diminish the look of crow’s feet around the eyes, there is now a new treatment option available. Recently the U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved the use of Botox Cosmetic to temporarily reduce the appearance of lateral canthal lines, more commonly referred to as crow’s feet.

In 2002, Botox Cosmetic was approved by the FDA to temporarily treat glabellar lines, or frown lines, between the eyebrows. Botox helps to keep the muscles in the face from tightening, which makes fine lines and wrinkles less prominent.

What is Botox?

Botox is a highly diluted protein toxin that is injected into facial expression muscles using a fine needle. The procedure typically takes around fifteen minutes using either topical anesthesia or no anesthesia. Results generally last around three to five months before another treatment is necessary. After multiple treatments, the results can last even longer, usually about six to eight months.

Advantages of Botox

As an alternative to surgery, Botox is considered a very safe way to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet and other cosmetic skin issues. Usually, the most serious side effects that have been observed include eyelid drooping and double vision. These complications usually correct themselves in a few weeks. Bruising may also occur, but does not last long.

After the Procedure

After treatment using Botox Cosmetic, it is recommended that you follow these simple recovery tips for optimal results.
