Liposuction: What to Expect

Liposuction is a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure. Many men and women are unhappy with the look and shape of their bodies, so they opt to have it professionally contoured to the look they want. Boulder Plastic Surgery has been helping men and women in Colorado achieve these slimmed looks for many years. However, since liposuction is a surgery, many people have questions regarding the procedure. If you’re interested in liposuction, here are some frequently asked questions to help you make your final decision.

How much does it cost?

Liposuction costs will vary based on the area being treated, but you can expect to pay around $4,000 for any single or paired area. If you have other single or paired areas you want treated, it would be beneficial to have the procedure done at the same time. These other areas will typically cost an additional $2,500 per single or paired area.

How is liposuction performed?

During the procedure, your doctor will use a tub and a vacuum device to remove the unwanted fat deposits from the areas you delegate. Once the fat is removed, the doctor will reshape the body area to give it a more natural look.

What areas of my body can receive liposuction?

It’s very important to remember that liposuction is not an alternative to diet and exercise. In most cases, liposuction is performed in the thighs, waist, back, and hips, but it can also be performed on the buttocks, face, abdomen, neck, legs, and upper arms.

What type of liposuction is available?

There are three different liposuction options available to Boulder Plastic Surgery patients. These include suction-assisted liposuction (SAL), ultrasonic-assisted liposuction (UAL), and tumescent liposuction. SAL is the traditional liposuction treatment that uses suction and tubes to remove excess fat. UAL uses ultrasonic energy created at the tip of a special probe to melt the fat. Tumescent liposuction is an added process that numbs the part of the body being treated.

How long does the procedure take?

In most cases, liposuction procedures will take only one to two hours.

What are the side effects?

With any surgical procedure, you run the risk of temporary bruising, swelling, soreness, numbness, and even burning.

How long will liposuction last?

As long as you maintain a sensible diet and exercise routine, your body contouring procedure can be permanent.

What’s the recovery period like?

The recovery period will vary based on the procedure, but you can expect to experience some bruising and swelling. You will need to wear a dressing and apply pressure for up to five days, and your doctor will explain certain massaging techniques that can help.
