Breast Cancer Survivor Susie Lindau Uses Her Blog to Motivate and Educate Others

boob reportReceiving a diagnosis of breast cancer can be a terrifying experience, but some women are able to use their circumstance as an opportunity to inspire others going through similar challenges. Susie Lindau is one of those women.

Susie’s Experience

Susie Lindau, an active and health conscious woman, was shocked by her diagnosis after a routine mammogram on April 16, 2013. She had stage 1 breast cancer in her right breast and decided to undergo a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. Landau chronicled her ordeal in “The Boob Report,” a section of her blog dedicated to her experience through the treatment process.

Instead of taking a negative approach, Lindau chose to use her blog as a way to encourage and educate others about what it is like to go through breast cancer. She did not let the disease dampen her humor, which is evident throughout each post.

In an early entry, Susie recounts getting her diagnosis and how she was thoroughly stunned, being that she was in such good health otherwise. She ate organically and had been using organic cleaners for nearly two decades. She had her home built using sustainable materials and was an avid tennis player and skier. Although she was initially angry about her diagnosis, her optimism soon shone through.

The Recovery Process

Following the surgery, Lindau also took readers through the recovery process and how it affected even the simplest tasks such as getting out of bed in the morning. She also talked about her decision to undergo reconstructive surgery and what that entailed. Many women are unaware of all of their options when it comes to reconstructive surgery, so Susie took the chance to explain the process.

Lindau did not let her disease slow her down. As soon as she could, she returned to the active lifestyle she loves and traveled all over. Throughout her treatment and writing these blogs, Susie also interacted with her readers and supporters who shared some of their personal stories as well.
