Tips for Rhinoplasty Preparation

Tips for Rhinoplasty Preparation

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that can help change the shape and function of an individual’s nose. Many people in the Boulder, Aurora, and Westminster area choose Boulder Plastic Surgery for their rhinoplasty procedure, and for good reason. If you are scheduled for a rhinoplasty surgery, then be sure to use the following rhinoplasty preparation tips.

Discontinue certain medications.

There are certain medications that can interfere with your rhinoplasty surgery. Be sure to talk with your doctor about the medications your currently take and if you should stop taking them. Some over-the-counter medications to discontinue include aspirin, ibuprofen, and herbal supplements.

Stop smoking.

Rhinoplasty requires anesthesia, and those who spoke pose a risk of having an interaction during surgery. Make sure that you stop smoking at least 1-2 weeks prior to your surgery. You should also keep in mind that nicotine can inhibit healing, so it’s also a good idea to refrain from this after surgery too.

Stock up on simple snacks.

Your mouth will be very dry and irritated after surgery due to having your mouth open for an extended period of time. Make sure that you stock up on simple snacks and cool drinks to have on hand at home while you recover.

Enlist help.

Although rhinoplasty recovery is not too long, it’s still a good idea to have someone on hand to help you around the house after your surgery. This can be a friend or relative, and it’s nice to have someone there to give you medication, bring you food, or simply spend time with you after the surgery is over.

You also need to make sure that someone comes with you to the surgery. You will not be allowed to drive home once you are discharged, so you need to find a method of transportation.

Confirm with your doctor.

Before you undergo surgery, make sure to confirm your wishes with your doctor. This way, you can be sure that you’re both on the same page for what will happen and what the results will be. This avoids any unforeseen issues after the surgery is complete. If you have questions, now is the time to ask them.

Pack comfortable clothes.

Being comfortable after surgery is important, so make sure to pack comfortable clothes. Choose something that will not involve too much lifting over your head (a button down shirt is preferable). You should also avoid anything that would be tight against your neck.
