Arm Lifts are Rising in Popularity

For many who have undergone significant body changes like pregnancy or fluctuations in weight, proper diet and exercise may not be enough to eliminate trouble areas. At Boulder Plastic Surgery, there are several ways to help patients achieve the look they desire. One of the body contouring procedures offered is an arm lift, which is rapidly rising in popularity. According to statistics by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), arm lift surgery is up by 4,378 percent since 2000. Formally known as a brachioplasty, an arm lift redefines the appearance of the upper arms.

What is an Arm Lift?

In 2012, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons recorded that more than 15,000 women underwent an arm lift. Sagging upper arms can be caused by heredity, weight loss, and aging. Exercise is typically the first course of action for patients trying to lose weight and tone their physiques. However, physical activity doesn’t always prove to tighten up trouble areas. An arm lift is a procedure where:

  • Excess fatty deposits are removed
  • Weakened supportive arm tissue is tightened and smoothed
  • Sagging skin is reduced

Arm Lift Candidates

Patients interested in an arm lift can set up a consultation at Boulder Plastic Surgery. At this initial meeting, our doctors will discuss the procedure as well as the patient’s goals regarding the surgery. Ideal candidates for an arm lift include:

  • Those with a healthy lifestyle
  • Non-smokers
  • Adults with a relatively stable weight
  • Patients with very lax skin of the upper arm

Arm Lift Recovery

The surgical site will require stitches to close up the incision, and bandages will be placed on the arms. Patients may also wear an elastic bandage or compression garment to minimize the swelling. Our surgeons will provide specific instructions on how to care for the surgical site to ensure a quick and smooth recovery.
