What to Expect After Facelift Surgery
If you’re interested in getting a facelift near Denver, but you’re worried about the recovery process, we’re here to help. At Boulder Plastic Surgery, our doctors have over 30 combined years of experience performing cosmetic procedures, and one of our emphases is on ensuring minimal downtime for our patients. That said, as with any surgery, some recovery time is inevitable. Facelifts offer numerous cosmetic benefits, tightening muscles and improving saggy skin on the face and neck, so the benefits outweigh the inconvenience you’ll experience after the procedure. Here’s what you can expect in the days following your surgery.
What Happens After Your Facelift?
Immediately after getting your facelift, you’ll likely wake up feeling slightly nauseated. There are medications that can help with the nausea, so be sure to alert a nurse or your doctor. Your face will also feel tight and tender, with some accompanying soreness. In many cases, your face will be wrapped with a fluffy dressing with the aim of reducing swelling, though this will likely be replaced with an elastic wrap in relatively short order (usually within a day). You can also expect to be drowsy immediately following the procedure.
For two weeks after the surgery, you’ll have to sleep with your head elevated, meaning that you’ll want to use two pillows or a wedge-shaped pillow — sleeping in an upright recliner is also an option. It’s best if you can keep your head as still as possible, too.
It’s also important to keep in mind that, while most facelifts are performed without incidents, complications are a possibility with any kind of surgery. If excessive pain, redness, or an elevated temperature occur, you should notify your surgeon right away, as these symptoms could indicate an infection.
